On 27th May-1st June 2019, LEDECO Centre Swiss (LEDECO) organized an in-depth “Study Tour for Global Vision and Multilateral Spirits” in collaboration with the China Institute for WTO Studies of the University of Business and Economics (UIBE) of China. Altogether nine foreign students of master level from various Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) countries participated in this tailor-made study programme.

 

During the study tour, participants have visited international organizations including the World Trade Organization (WTO), the International Trade Centre (ITC), the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Permanent Mission of China to the WTO.

 

Senior representatives of these international organizations and institutions delivered high-quality lectures to participants on topics related to global economic and trade governance such as the accession of WTO, trade in services, trade policy review, multilateral trade and dispute settlement mechanism, etc. In addition, participants also learned about the history, work and role of each international organization in global governance, as well as the selection process and criteria of their interns.

Ambassador Yonov Frederick Agah, Deputy Director-General of the WTO; Danio Campanelli, Legal and Trade Policy Advisor of the Council & TNC Division; Mena Hassan, Senior Trade Policy Analyst of the Trade Policies Review Division of the WTO; Sajal Mathur, Counsellor of the Trade and Environment Division of the WTO; Maika Oshikawa, Director of the Accessions Division of the WTO; Mariam Soumaré, Trade Policy Analyst of the Accessions Division of the WTO; Anar Mammadov, Senior Official of UNCTAD; Simon Schorno, Operations Coordinator for Asia and the Pacific of the ICRC, etc.
